THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON GENDER AND DISASTERS:
“CONSTRUCTING THE FUTURE IN RELIEF WORK: LEARNING FROM WOMEN’S EXPERIENCES IN CULTURALLY DIVERSE CONDITIONS

With the generous support of USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), the third workshop on gender and disasters was successfully held at Kocaeli University (KOÜ), Turkey on 8-11 October 2008. On the basis of the progress that was achieved in the two previous workshops (Florida 2000 and Hawaii 2004), while continuing to work on the link between gender equality and disaster risk for effective disaster management, the Kocaeli workshop focused on cultural issues and the influence of values and culture in disaster risk reduction.
